Letters

Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans, Commissioners Stella Kyriakides, Janusz Wojciechowski and Virginijus Sinkevičius
Dear President von der Leyen,
We, the undersigned civil society organisations, are writing to throw our full support behind this Commission’s core commitment to laying the foundations of an EU food system transition to sustainability. We urge you to remain strong in the face of growing (geo)political pressures and attacks on the Farm to Fork Strategy, and to come forward with the legislative framework for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS), the Strategy’s flagship initiative, as planned for 2023.

Joint Statement: Civil society & IPs to FAO: End indefinite agreement, ensure accountability
After a high-level meeting last week, we, representatives of civil society & Indigenous Peoples organizations, urgently call on the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to end its existing agreement with CropLife International (CLI), to publicly clarify the nature of its ties with the pesticide industry, and to subject these ties to greater transparency and accountability.

EU Commission needs to take action regarding the alliance between FAO and CropLife International
Dear Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen,
(Cc. Vice-President Timmermans),
The EU being an important member of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), we are writing to you concerning the unacceptable partnership that FAO has established with CropLife International, the umbrella organisation of the world's biggest pesticide companies.

PAFF July meeting (A. 06, point 1) - Confirmation information on Propyzamide - Call upon Member States to reject the amended review report
Dear members of the PAFF committee,

Call for a commensurate reply to the rising presence of the most hazardous pesticides in the EU
Dear Mr Hertoge,
Thank you for your letter to President von der Leyen of 8 June 2022. I take note of the concerns expressed in your letter in relation to the ambitions and timetable for the adoption of the legislation replacing the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive.

Derogations to CAP conditionality in 2023 are unacceptable
Dear Executive Vice-President, Dear Commissioners,
We are writing to express our deepest concern in relation to the possibility of the European Commission granting derogations on two basic conditionality standards of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Joint statement - A strong EU Nature Package to tackle the climate, health and biodiversity crises
On June 22, the European Commission is expected to publish two crucial legislative proposals to implement the EU Green Deal. The “Nature Protection Package” includes the EU Nature Restoration Law and the revision of the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive (the Pesticides Reduction Regulation). We call on the Commission to publish the two Regulations on the planned date and introduce ambitious and binding targets to stop irreversible biodiversity breakdown.

No further delay of the Nature Protection Package
Dear Commissioners,
Dear Co-legislators,
The European organic movement, together with the organizers of the European Citizens' Initiative Save Bees and Farmers (signed by 1.2 million Europeans calling for a 80 percent reduction of synthetic pesticides by 2030 and a phase-out by 2035) fully support the European Commission's aim of releasing the "Nature Protection Package" on 22 June 2022, without any further delay.
