The Commission’s proposal for a “Food and Feed Safety Simplification Omnibus” already represents a significant weakening of the EU’s pesticide safety framework established under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. Far from being a technical simplification exercise, the proposal removes important safeguards designed to protect human health and the environment from pesticides, including the system of periodic reassessment of pesticide toxicity. The proposal has raised tremendous concerns among the scientific community and civil society.
