8-Hydroxyquinoline

Type: Fungicide.

Use: Preventative and curative, e.g., on vines, tomatoes, and hops.

Authorised: AT, BE, BG, CY, DE, EL, ES, FR, HU, MT, PT, SI.

Health Hazards: Toxic to the reproductive system: clear evidence that exposure can cause increased abortions and impaired fetal development (Classified Repr. 1B). European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) found endocrine activity. 

Environmental Hazards: Classified as very toxic to aquatic life, with acute and long-lasting effects.

Exposure: Authorised in 12 Member states: AT, BE, BG, CY, DE, EL, ES, FR, HU, MT, PT, SI.

Regulatory state of Play: Approved under an “exceptional” extension until December 2022. 

Alternatives: Crop rotation, mechanical weeding, resistant varieties, avoiding wet plots of land.
