Publication of the revision of the legislation on the sustainable use of pesticides, on 23 March 2022.

Dear President von der Leyen, Executive Vice-President Timmermans, dear Commissioners Kyriakides, Wojciechowski and Sinkevičius,

Over the last weeks, we have witnessed numerous public interventions with alarming messages according to which the EU’s “food security” is in danger because of the war in Ukraine. We are aware that international solidarity is and will be needed, but the situation in the EU with regard to “food security” and “food sovereignty” is different to the messages we have heard these last weeks.

"Save the bees and farmers" is the name of an important and ambitious European Citizens' Initiative that collects signatures across Europe to make EU agriculture harmless to bees, by putting pesticides out of use. The goal of the initiative is to collect 1,000,000 signatures to compel the European Commission and the European Parliament to take further steps to remove pesticides from use in agriculture and to create models to support farmers in their transition to sustainable agriculture.
