NEW ZEALAND: Celery has highest pesticide levels
Celery is the food most likely to contain pesticides according to a new list published by compiled by food and soil researchers using data from New Zealand’s Food Safety Authority. Peaches, apricots, butter and bread were also on the list highlighting a dozen foods high in pesticide residues.

CANADA: Atrazine alters sexual development in frogs
Researchers at the University of Ottawa have shown the widely used herbicide atrazine alters sexual development in frogs at levels equivalent to those found in the Canadian environment. The study, published in Environmental Health Perspectives also reduced the number of tapoles developing into frogs and had a feminising effect.

ISRAEL: Pesticide exposure affects sex of offspring
Men who have been exposed to dibromochloro-propane, a pesticide known to cause sterility, are more likely to father female offspring according to research presented at a conference today in Tel Aviv.

AUSTRALIA: Dolphin deaths may be pesticide related
It is suspected the banned pesticide dieldrin may be responsible for the deaths of six bottlenosed dolphins from Perth's Swan River. Scientists are investigating.

UK: Pesticides responsible for bee decline
A new study by the Soil Association and Buglife claims a group of pesticides called neonicotinoids are partly responsible for the drop in bee numbers in Britain.
