Message in a Bottle
PAN Europe publishes an analysis of pesticide residues found in wine. Working in collaboration with MDRGF, Greenpeace Germany, and Friends of the Earth Austria (Global 2000), PAN Europe purchased 40 bottles of wine from across the European Union and sent them to laboratories to be tested for pesticide residues. All 34 conventional wine samples analysed were shown to contain pesticide residues. On average over four different pesticides were detected in each bottle - with one sample containing 10 different residues.

Counselling the Ministers
PAN Europe authors two policy briefings aimed at better informing the Council of Ministers - now charged with reviewing the Commission's proposed pesticides Regulation.
The first analysis looks at the Commission's proposal to divide the EU into three authorisations zones - within which 'obligatory mutual recognition' would force each member state to authorise all substances approved by all other countries. The second paper aims to counter industry claims that the elimination of exposure to carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic and endocrine disrupting pesticides would impact on agricultural productivity.
